The beautiful birth of Teddy

The beautiful birth of Teddy

On Saturday 2nd June (6days earlier than our 'guess date'), I had spent the early part of the morning resting in my 'nest' I had made for labour and birth. Little did I know, (or perhaps instinctively I did) that within a few hours we would meet our beautiful little boy. Being our second baby, I had expectations of how my labour would progress, but it was anything but similar to my first. At 9:30, we made the necessary calls to inform the midwife and Jo (who we had asked to be our Doula) that my waters had started to go. At this point, my husband began timing my surges, which were regularly coming every 3minutes. Over the next hour, my surges continued and I spent the time visualising my place of calm and comfort and using the surge breath to manage the intensity of the sensations I was experiencing. Meanwhile, my Husband (and Captain) took care of everything else; phoning the midwife, phoning Jo (to let them know it was time to come over) and supplying me with the necessary food and hydration. When the midwife and Jo arrived, I was in my nest, being supported by my Husband and listening to the 'Labour of Love' download. During my pregnancy I had listened to the 'Labour of Love' download frequently and positively anticipated my labour and when the time came, I was excited at the thought of meeting our newest addition. The download helped to focus my attention and breathing, allowing me to remain calm and comfortable with each surge. It wasn't long before my body was telling me that I needed to switch to the 'sunset breath'.. I knew it wouldn't be long until our little lad made his appearance. With reassurance and encouragement from Jo, I was able to breathe down to my Baby, trusting my instincts and at 11:58 our little Boy was born. Our little Boy was received by my Husband, who, without Jo's encouragement would not otherwise have done so. The Babies in Waiting Course and the support from Jo as our Doula, undoubtedly made for the most positive and beautiful birthing experience, for which we are extremely grateful.
