The beautiful birth of Sadie By Babiesinwaiting | 4 / Feb / 2018
My birth with my biggest little one was amazing...I stumbled across 'hypnobirthing' at 35 weeks pregnant, realised how it made sense, got on board (quickly!) and practiced all the techniques with my hubby and we had a beautiful birth. I felt euphoric that we had done it! And then....I was told by lots of people that our birth was a fluke. "You were just lucky you had a good birth"! I knew deep down that it wasn't down to luck; it was understanding what my body was doing and realising that fear could affect something that was normal, natural and healthy for my body to do. BUT, those comments did play on my mind. Second time round, we refreshed ourselves and started practicing again. We decided that this time round, we would have a home birth.
My surges (contractions) started during the night and realising that today was the day and we were going to meet our littlest little one, my hubby's parents picked up the big one. We then spent the rest of the day sofa surfing, candles lit, shutters down, all very relaxing. So relaxing for hubby, that whilst I was listening to our Babies in Waiting 'Pregnancy Journey' download during my surges, he watched the whole second series of 'Poldark'! Our two midwives arrived later on that evening. Two lovely ladies but they didn't believe I was in active labour because of how calm I was. The same scenario we had the first time round. I breathed through all my surges, had my husband by my side (who was also the go-between with the midwives), and took everyone by surprise. I had a beautiful room laid out with a birthing pool, my images up, candles etc. In the end, I listened to my body and realising I wanted to be upstairs by myself, I took myself off and very soon after, I gave birth to my beautiful little one. It was the same as before; perhaps even better because I was at home so I could get into bed straight after! Two beautiful births, no pain relief, no stitches and great recoveries. Birth is so incredible and seeing my gorgeous lovely ones, I realise that giving birth is the most special thing that you can ever do, make it a good one! I will dress my little ones up in Valentine's outfits (much to their chagrin), because I love them so much and I love our family x
